In a love affair between a man and a woman, they live each day seeing themselves   as   soul   mates   without   thinking   anything   sinister   would happen to  their till death do us part vow. The same scenario happens in politics where a person joins a political party of one’s choice without any intention of being chucked out. Like in a love affair, in politics usually there are fallouts for one reason or the other.

There are simmering tensions in the MDC faction led by Nelson Chamisa over the contestations for elective posts as the party prepares for its 5th elective Congress since its formation in 1999. A faction aligned to Chamisa is lobbying for the postponement of the congress from the scheduled February/March 2019 to later in the year, around October 2018 amid accusations by other members that Chamisa is seeking to delay the watershed congress to consolidate his position. This is against the background of questions surrounding the legitimacy of Chamisa’s assumption of the MDC leadership following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai in February 2018.

On Tuesday, this week, Parliament had to adjourn prematurely following ZANU legislators’ objection to the MDC-T Chamisa faction Dangamvura-Chikanga legislator, Prosper Mutseyami’s mischievous claim that his faction leader, Nelson Chamisa received over two million votes and that it was a blatant lie that President Emmerson Mnangagwa  chalked up more than a million voters.
