President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to empowering children and young people with the necessary skills for the future.

Addressing a vibrant assembly of young leaders yesterday, at the official opening of the 32nd Junior Parliament and the commemoration of the Day of the African Child at the New Parliament Building in Mt. Hampden, President Mnangagwa emphasised the pivotal role young people play in the nation's development.

"The Government is committed to developing you, our young people, into productive citizens and responsible leaders of tomorrow. I commend the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training as well as other stakeholders for continuously enhancing this programme," President Mnangagwa declared.

Further enhancing his address, President Mnangagwa urged the youth to cherish their national identity and uphold patriotic values.

"As you all grow as leaders, I urge you to always remain yourselves as Zimbabweans. You are the descendants of the great Emperor Munhumutapa. Do not be swayed from our rich heritage, moral values, norms, culture, and identity. I call upon you to always honour and respect the youth of yesteryear, some who were as old as many of you, by loving our motherland, Zimbabwe. Remain proud of being a Zimbabwean, an African child, and an African youth," he stated.

The President also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the educational framework within the country.

"Education, science, and innovation, as well as vocational training and skills development, are indeed major tools for sustainable development. Your access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education is important for the attainment of our national Vision 2030," added the President.

President Mnangagwa further noted that more than two million youths are poised to benefit from Vocational Training Centres, which are integral to economic modernization and industrialization.

"Many more young people must be given the opportunity to learn and acquire trades to improve their livelihoods. No one and no place must be left behind," he added.

The President further called on the youth and all citizens to eschew drug and substance abuse, which undermines societal progress.

Meanwhile, in a significant move to involve more young people in governance, the President announced the expansion of the Junior Parliament to include a Junior Senate, set to be occupied by former members of the lower house.

This initiative marks a continued effort by the Government to foster a generation of skilled, informed, and patriotic leaders who are prepared to drive the nation towards a prosperous future.
