Government is set to leverage smart technologies developed by companies such as Huawei, to transform its infrastructure and achieve Vision 2030.
This morning, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Dr Tatenda Mavetera accompanied by Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) director general Dr Gift Machengete visited Huawei’s Shanghai Research and Development Centre in Harare.
Hon Mavetera emphasized the urgent need for Zimbabwe to rapidly deploy 5G nationwide.
“Zimbabwe needs to quickly deploy 5G all over the country which aims to harness smart technologies developed by companies such as Huawei to facilitate this transition.
“Over time, Zimbabwe plans to upgrade to 5.5G leveraging these advancements to transform its infrastructure and achieve Vision 2030, this transformation can only be achieved by ensuring that no one and no place is left behind,” she said.
Furthermore, Hon Mavetera emphasized the transformative potential of smart technology on Zimbabwe’s development.
“Smart technology is a game changer for our nation, driving efficiency, innovation and sustainable growth, the Government is committed to fostering an environment that supports innovation and technological advancement,” she added.
The President of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, Phil Li and the region’s Vice President were on hand to guide the Zimbabwe delegation through Huawei’s latest innovations.
The showcased technologies included smart traffic systems, smart mining solutions, e-commerce advancements and smart routers.
Moreover, the Government is committed to developing its ICT sector to transform the economy. Companies and individuals have been encouraged to engage in digital innovation, which is crucial for fostering the high-quality growth of a digital economy.
Recently, the Ministry of ICT witnessed the launch of a number of innovations from the locals such as NDASENDA, a tailor-made digital payment platform designed for the Zimbabwe market, in line with the President’s mantra ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo’.
