The Minister Sport, Recreation Arts and Culture, Kirsty Coventry, is set to commission a brand new multipurpose court at Rafomoyo High School in Gutu on June 19, 2024.
The facility is expected to provide world-class sporting experience for students, athletes, and the community at large. The multipurpose sport court is designed to accommodate various sports, including basketball, netball, tennis, and volleyball.
In an Interview with this Publication, Acting Deputy Director of Masvingo Province, Rangarirai Gobvu said the Multipurpose Sport Court was built under the 100 day cycle project of the Ministry of Sports.
“The Court was built in line with President Emmersorn Mnangwagwa's mantra of leaving no place and no one behind, in mind. The center will help youths both in and out of school and will also help them to improve their abilities and performances. We are hoping that schools and clubs would invite athletes to be trained on-site," said Gobvu.
In addition, Gobvu said that the multipurpose sport court will help in the fight against drug and substance abuse, as well as an educative and interaction Centre for youths.
“The facility will help in the fight against drug and substance abuse. It will be an interaction center where youth will be educated about the dangers of substance abuse,” added Gobvu.
After the official opening there will be a tennis festival of various teams in the Province as well as District, Provincial competitions for the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) and the National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) championship games.
The construction of the multipurpose sport court is a significant investment in the development of sports infrastructure in Gutu, and is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of young people in the province. Also, the performance and competitiveness of the local athletes could increase to match regional and international sportsmen.
