Speaking to this publication, Nickros Kajengo, the Chief Programmes Coordinator at the Ministry's youth desk, expressed his enthusiasm about the Government's commitment to mechanisation in agriculture.
"It is with great pleasure that I announce the Government's commendable initiative in its relentless pursuit of empowering the youth through mechanization. In furtherance of this noble endeavour, the Government has recently made available a remarkable fleet of 70 two-wheeled tractors exclusively for the benefit of the youths," said Kajengo.
The distribution of these tractors is seen as a foundational step towards modernising agriculture and increasing efficiency within the sector.
"By equipping the youth with these modern and versatile agricultural implements, the government is actively cultivating an environment conducive to their entrepreneurial growth and success within the agricultural sector. This, however, is only the beginning, as there are further plans and initiatives in the pipeline," said Kajengo.
Further elaborating on the Government's vision, Kajengo added, "The Government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting and nurturing the potential of the youth, recognising their invaluable role in shaping the future of our agricultural landscape. It is a testament to the government's unwavering dedication to empowering the youth, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the nation's sustainable development."
Kajengo also urged the youth to make the most of this opportunity.
"This is a chance to embrace innovation, enhance productivity, and actualize their aspirations within the agricultural value chains. Let us unite, inspired by this progressive stride by the Government, and forge ahead on a path of prosperity, sustainability, and transformative growth within the agricultural sector. Together, we shall build a bright and prosperous future for our nation," said Kajengo.
In addition to providing equipment, the Ministry is organising a series of capacity-building workshops across the country.
These workshops are designed to equip the youth with the necessary skills for development and empowerment, further enabling them to leverage the new agricultural technologies for enhanced productivity.
This comprehensive approach not only aims to empower the youth but also to solidify their role as pivotal contributors to the nation's agricultural sector, driving it towards greater heights of success and sustainability as envisioned in the national goals for 2030.
