New fissures have emerged in the MDC Alliance over the route to take following their Constitutional Court challenge (ConCourt) loss.
This was revealed during the party’s panicky move to maintain relevance after, in which they have embarked on district assembly meetings to consult on a way forward for the party.
It has emerged that out of the 210 party districts, the party has so far conducted consultation meetings in 22 district assemblies. It came out that the embattled party’s supporters are not singing from the same hymn book with 17 of them favouring a confrontational route in which they threatened to stage violent demonstrations and make the country ungovernable.
However, five of the district assemblies prefer dialogue with Zanu PF with a view to pushing for another Government of National Unity.
The MDC Alliance have indicated that they would want to revive the MDC militant group known as the Democratic Resistance Committees (DRCs) to mobilise people for the demonstrations once dates have been set.
In Harare province, Chitungwiza South District, the meeting resolved to unleash a number of terror activities against known Zanu PF supporters and their offices to remove the alleged Zanu PF misrule. The meeting threatened to borrow the Raila Odinga modus operandi as they alleged that Zanu PF bribed its legitimacy through the ConCourt.
However, the five district assemblies which resolved to give negotiations and dialogue a chance indicated that it was pointless to engage in running battles with State security apparatus as it may lead to arrest of their members.
