Some Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ruffians in Umguza constituency in Matebeleland North Province have attacked and seriously injured a ZANU PF member.
A source who spoke to this publication said that some CCC thugs working under the instructions of that party’s interim Matebeleland North provincial chairperson, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, attacked ZANU PF Mahlotova District vice chairperson, Norman Ngwenya, at his homestead in Redwood Village 2 in Umguza.
“Last weekend, some CCC thugs were sent by Sibanda to attack Ngwenya. These thugs were being led by Kudzai Maponde, Bongani Ncube, Chipo Bhikisa and Madlenkosi Mlauzi. They assaulted Ngwenya with fists and logs causing him to sustain serious injuries,” said the source.
According to the source, Sibanda had earlier sent a WhatsApp message to Ngwenya threatening to attack him for influencing CCC Umguza Ward 9 aspiring councillor, Benzis Ndlovu to withdraw his candidature.
“Sibanda was irked that Ngwenya had managed to convince Ndlovu to withdraw from CCC candidate selection process and join ZANU PF. Sibanda texted Ngwenya threatening him with violence. We later saw some CCC members wearing yellow T-shirts visiting Ngwenya’s homestead to assault him,” added the source.
The source added that the perpetrators of this violence were yet to be arrested as they have since escaped.
Meanwhile, CCC members continue to perpetrate violence ahead of this year’s elections as they also attacked and injured ZANU PF member in Magunje last week.
Knowledge Kumbweya, a prominent CCC member in Magunje is currently in police custody following his attack on ZANU PF member, Thando Mugoni. Kumbweya assaulted Mugoni for wearing a T-shirt inscribed with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s portrait.
Political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya said that CCC was slowly morphing into a violent group and urged the state security agents to decisively deal with any forms of pre-election violence.
“The police should arrest all perpetrators of violence regardless of one’s political affiliation. These CCC thugs who are perpetrating violence should be arrested so that we could have a peaceful and violent free election,” said Chipwanya.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has continued to preach peace and political tolerance ahead of the elections slated for August this year. The President warned all perpetrators of violence that they would be dealt with accordingly.
