Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members who spoke to this publication concurred with outspoken activist, Hopewell Chin’ono that their party was dead.
Early this week, Chin’ono described the CCC as dead as a dodo, questioning why incarcerated senior official, Job Sikhala's family is failing to make ends meet when that party should be taking care of them.
Chin’ono accused CCC party of not doing enough, setting off a series of responses, attacks and defences that dominated social media platforms.
However, some CCC members told this publication that Chin’ono was right as their party had all the hallmarks of a dead political movement.
“Chin’ono was right and he spoke what was on our minds. It’s not a secret that CCC is dead. A party without a recognised membership, a constitution and substantive leadership like ours is surely a dead political movement. We are all passengers in a gravy train,” said a CCC member who preferred anonymity.
The same member described some CCC youths who attacked Chin’ono on social media as ‘excitable youths who were willing puppets of Nelson Chamisa’.
“These excitable youths like Makomborero Haruzivishe are offside. Instead of rushing to attack Chin’ono, they should have urged Chamisa to rectify his mistakes and save the party from imploding,” said the member.
Another CCC member accused his party of shooting the messenger instead of listening to the messenger’s message to hear if there was sense in it.
This same CCC member predicted that his party would implode soon after elections, unless an elective congress was held as soon as possible. He further described as nonsensical Chamisa’s repeated slogan that ‘CCC was giving power back to the citizens.’
Meanwhile, CCC senior members who were elbowed out during last week’s shambolic candidate nomination exercise were reportedly contemplating to run as independent candidates in this year’s elections.
