Leader for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa’s faction continues to display signs of implosion due to pressure exerted by Charlton Hwende’s Maruva cabal.
A well-placed source within CCC has revealed to this publication that Chamisa’s allies, in particular Member of Parliament (MP) for Harare West Joana Mamombe, and Harare Ward 16 Denford Ngadziore, resorted to rigging through illegal acquisition of nomination forms from that party’s Organising Department Secretary, Farai Chinobva.
According to the source, Ngadziore approached him looking for funds to pay Chinobva a bribe so that he could be given fifty nomination forms which he would complete on his own before returning them to Chinobva in advance of the nomination.
“Ngadziore was in urgent need of US$ 2 000 to pay Secretary Farai Chinobva as bribe money to grant him access to 70 blank nomination forms. He said he would fill his details on the nomination forms thereby self-nominating himself before returning the forms back to Chinobva before 5 am on the day of nominations. He said he was desperate to surrender the nominations to Secretary Chinobva since politicians were not allowed to hand in the nominations.
“According to Ngadziore, he was let in on this deal by MP Mamombe who had indicated that she already paid her money to Chinobva in order to secure her place as the party’s Harare West candidate through self-nomination,” said the source.
The source further alleged that Ngadziore disclosed that, both he and Mamombe had resorted to bribery as the pair feared that Maruva cabal posed a greater threat than what Chamisa had originally anticipated.
This case of self-nomination by aspirants in CCC is another rigging technic which has come to light as the Chamisa led CCC selection process keeps attracting negative remarks and comments from across the country.
General consensus across the country has revealed that the party’s nomination process was marred by violence and candidate imposition. In Warren Park, nominations were abandoned after supporters aligned to incumbent legislator, Shakespeare Hamauswa clashed with supporters from rival party member. In wards within Beitbridge West constituency, the nominations were abandoned altogether, whilst several Parliamentary and Senate hopefuls accused the presiding officers for conducting the exercises at undesignated stations.
CCC Deputy Spokesperson Gift Siziba’s claims that the nominations were democratic as evidenced by more youths contesting in the nomination process have since been dismissed by political analysts who maintained that this was an indication of Chamisa’s desire to shake off Maruva loyalists.
