Imposition of candidates sparks fights in CCC

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is on the verge of implosion following the shambolic candidate nomination exercise that took place last week.

A source revealed to this publication that the nomination process left that party weaker as there were complains of imposition of candidates aligned to that party’s leader, Nelson Chamisa.

“The nomination process that took place last week left the party weaker. There are complains of imposition of candidates aligned to Chamisa. In Chitungwiza, candidates who are feeling hard done by the process are contemplating standing as independent candidates in the forthcoming elections,” said the source.

The source added that the nomination exercise that took place at Zengeza 2 grounds in Chitungwiza should be dismissed as the exercise was rigged and manipulated in favour of Chamisa’s lieutenants.

“The nomination exercise that took place last Saturday at Zengeza 2 grounds were manipulated and rigged in favour of Chamisa’s favourites. It was clear from the onset that St Mary’s legislator, Dickson Tarusenga should be the sole nominee for the constituency. Other aspiring candidates were frustrated by Chamisa’s loyalists who were saying that there was a directive from Chamisa that Tarusenga should not be challenged,” said the source.

The source added that people were told to nominate ward 12 sitting councilor, Darlington Musonza and ward 9 councilor, Godwill Mushangwe and failure to do so would attract the wrath of Chamisa.

The same source added that the people of Chitungwiza were still in the dark on who won the nominations as the presiding officers refused to announce results saying that they need to consult Chamisa first.

Meanwhile, CCC was yesterday expected to hold a presser to announce the winning candidates but the press conference was aborted at the eleventh hour for unspecified reasons.
