Chief Chimoyo of Mutoko in Mashonaland East is in trouble with his subordinates following his involvement in opposition politics. A source from the Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs informed this publication that Chief Chimoyo, whose real name is Jeremiah Zambezi, has irked members of his community after turning his meetings into political rallies for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
"Chief Chimoyo is not in good books with his subordinates in Mutoko as he has a tendency of turning community meetings into political gatherings. In the meetings, Chief Chimoyo urges people to vote for CCC, a move which the locals have detested and have opted to dethrone him," said the source.
The source further highlighted that Chief Chimoyo is now frequently visiting the CCC interim organizing secretary, Amos Chibaya where he is given cash handouts to influence other chiefs.
"Chief Chimoyo frequently visits Amos Chibaya where they meet and he is given money to try to buy other chiefs to vote for CCC in the 2023 elections,"
The source added that Chief Chimoyo now frequently visits his home area and CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, who promised favors if he assumes power.
"He (Chief Chimoyo) has also normalised visiting Chamisa as he was promised the presidency of the Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs should Chamisa come out victorious in the 2023 elections," said the source.
Meanwhile, CCC is trying to influence traditional leaders such as Chief Mathema in Matabeleland South to mobilise voters ahead of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.
