Necessity is the mother of all inventions, but when it is not necessary to invent, there are surely consequences that come by attempting to reinvent the wheel.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) will certainly pen a memoir articulating the ‘does’ and don’ts of politics as the lessons are coming hard on that party’s leadership following Nelson Chamisa’s unilateral declaration to go for the 2023 Harmonized General Elections without hosting an Elective Congress.
A highly placed source at CCC told The Harare Post that, that party’s aspiring candidates were already exhibiting signs of panic following ZANU PF’s systematic and successful fielding of candidates that would be participating in its primary elections at the weekend.
The source confided that several CCC aspiring candidates were reaching out to CCC interim co-vice president, Tendai Biti expressing concern over the delay and criteria to choose candidates. One aspiring councillor is alleged to have told Biti that: “Shefu (Sir) are you following ZANU PF primary election preparations? Even though they have been postponed, the guys have already fielded their candidates. At the 11th hour, we still don’t know what our strategy is and when the candidates are going to be nominated. We are flying blind and already angova mazvake mazvake (each man for himself). We need to clear cut path to follow, otherwise the damages could be far reaching.”
Biti is said to be comforting the panicking candidates by alleging that urban voters do not vote for ZANU PF and arguing that rate payers simply think they suffer because of ZANU PF.
Meanwhile, in a bid to fire fight the growing uncertainty and panic mode, Chamisa held meetings dubbed ‘Presidential Citizens Assemblies’ across the country from 17 to 23 March 2023.
