Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) hooligans yesterday attacked and wounded some ZANU PF supporters who were attending a Cell meeting in Gokwe-Nembudziya.
A victim, Clever Hamadziripi informed this publication that ZANU-PF supporters were attending a Cell meeting to urge each other to register to vote when CCC thugs pounced on them and started attacking them with logs, stones and clenched fists.
“We were at a meeting at Mtora Growth Point in Gokwe-Nembudziya when thugs donning CCC regalia pounced on us and started assaulting us. Some of our members, including the Party’s District chairperson, Temba Motsi and Shylet Hatina were badly injured during the melee. They are currently receiving medical attention at Gokwe North District Hospital,” said Hamadziripi.
Hamadziripi added that the CCC thugs who attacked them were visibly intoxicated and were determined to kill them.
“They were visibly drunk and were determined to kill us. We had to scurry for cover before they could kill us,” added Hamadziripi.
Political analyst, Trevor Mushayi commented that the violence that erupted in Gokwe might have been influenced by the CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa who was in that area yesterday.
“This is not a coincidence, Chamisa was in Gokwe yesterday and now we see his supporters engaging in acts of violence. I strongly believe that Chamisa incited his supporters to unleash violence on ZANU PF members. CCC is slowly morphing into a terrorist organization and it’s not good for the peace of the country. I hope the Zimbabwe Republic Police will apprehend all perpetrators of this unfortunate violence,” said Mushayi.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa is on record urging the people of Zimbabwe to exercise political tolerance and shun violence. Last Saturday addressing political returnees at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), the President said that peace and unity should remain as fundamental requisites for sustainable development.
