….as Mwonzora suspends 7 senior members

Fissures have widened within MDC-T with that party leader, Douglas Mwonzora suspending seven leaders for fanning factionalism and colluding with forces hostile to the party.

In an internal memo yesterday, MDC-T National Chairperson, Solomon Chikohwero informed that seven senior members, including Engineer Elias Mudzuri, were suspended and were to be arraigned before a disciplinary committee soon.

“The Movement for Democratic Change has with effect from today, 16 January 2023, suspended the following members from the party pending investigations and disciplinary action. Honourable Senator Elias Mudzuri, Mr Norest Marara, (Secretary for Party Business and Projects), Mr Gift Konjana (Chairperson, Mashonaland West province), Mr John Nyika (Chairperson Masvingo province), Mr Den Moyo (Chairperson USA province), Mr Edwin Dzambara (Secretary for Education) and Mr Edwin Kakora (National Executive member). These members are facing serious disciplinary charges and their suspensions are in terms of Clause 9.1.2.3 of the party’s constitution. The hearings will be conducted in terms of the MDC constitution and their rights as accused persons will be respected,” said Chikohwero.

Commenting on the MDC-T fissures, political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya said that MDC-T risks performing badly in the forthcoming elections if they failed to quickly solve its differences.

“The suspension of the seven leaders came at the wrong time because the 2023 elections are around the corner. The MDC-T party risks performing badly in the coming elections unless they quickly solve their internal differences. We don’t expect a party like MDC-T to continue having internal fights instead of selling their policies to the electorate,” said Chipwanya.

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that MDC-T has been infiltrated by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) with the intention to decimate that party before the 2023 elections. A number of MDC-T leaders including Marara and Konjana were at one time seen holding clandestine meetings with CCC officials at No. 4 Hillmorton Road in Malbereign.
