Sikhala throws Masarirevu under the bus

Zengeza West legislator and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim Deputy National Chairperson, Job Sikhala has denied ever writing letters from prison, throwing his personal spokesperson, Freddy Michael Masarirevhu under the bus, accusing him of using his incarceration to gain relevance.

Speaking to this publication, a source within Sikhala’s legal team refuted claims that Sikhala wrote correspondence from prison, adding that the letters are the work of a person who is desperately seeking relevance.

“We have established that correspondences from Sikhala emanating from remand prison were in actual fact originated and distributed by Masariveru, the Sikhala family spokesperson who seeks to remain relevant to Sikhala, but is actually damaging his case.

“It seems Masarirevu is pushing his own agenda that we as Sikhala lawyers are not privy to.  His letters seek to generate political sympathy for Sikhala from the local and international communities, negatively impacting our efforts to help him.   Masarirevhu is making it a political issue, instead of leaving Sikhala’s matter into our capable hands,” said one of the lawyers who preferred to remain anonymous.

Furthermore, the source also blamed Beatrice Mtetwa for ruining Sikhala’s chances of accessing bail, by constantly pushing to turn his case into a political one.

“We should plead our matter correctly, trying to politicise this case is the reason we have been denied bail repeatedly.  If we admit that our client has repeatedly violated set down bail conditions and beg the courts for leniency as well as to set stringent bail conditions, Sikhala would have been granted bail, however Mtetwa seems to think there is traction in turning this matter into a political issue,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Sikhala is refusing to see visitors from both the CCC and MDC T political parties, claiming that they are both trying to kill him, while faking their allegiance to the embattled parliamentarian.
