Acting President Constantine Chiwengwa has commended the church for being dependable Government partners who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that national goals are achieved.
Speaking today at the 6th National Thanks Giving Dedication Service, in Bulawayo today, Acting President Chiwenga thanked the Church for going the extra mile in the fight against sanctions.
“We are heartened by the fact that the Churches have been working hard on initiatives to lobby for the removal of sanctions which are unjust, cruel and heartless, which continue to impoverish our nation.
“Last year’s initiative to the United Kingdom, led by Bishop Mutendi and Reverend Wutawunashe, to lobby Western political and religious leaders to remove the sanctions is a good example of efforts by the church to bring to end this illegality thus providing relief to the nation,” said Acting President Chiwenga.
He further called on the church to assist Government in the fight against moral decadence which has spread like a cancer eroding the blanket of our society.
“I urge the church to work hand in glove with the Government in all initiatives for the good of our people, our economy and humanity.
“Our society is experiencing a high level of morale decadence in the form of drug and substance abuse, which require a concerted effort between Government and the Church to address the scourge,” said Acting President Chiwenga.
He concluded by calling on the church to pray for peace and calm as the nation approaches its 2023 Harmonised General Elections.
“I urge the Church to pray for peace and calm in our Nation as we head for elections. Violence has no place in our Elections,” he said.
The National Day of prayer and thanksgiving was held under the theme, “Be strong, all ye people of Zimbabwe, and work. For I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts:” Haggai Chapter 2 vs 4
