Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has lost confidence in that party’s old guards and is set to form a parallel structure composed of youthful members aligned to him.
A source who spoke to this publication said that last week Chamisa held a meeting with a selected CCC youth members in Mabelreign and revealed that he has lost trust in some CCC senior members as they now proffer tired ideas.
“Chamisa held a meeting last week with CCC youthful members and revealed that he wanted to form a group to be known as the Joshua Generation or Team Chamisa with a key mandate to campaign for him in the forthcoming elections. Chamisa said that the future of CCC rested with the youths, hence the need to form a structure composed of energetic and loyal youths,” said the youths.
At that meeting which was also attended by some CCC youth leaders such as Gift Siziba, Lovemore Chinoputsa and Joanna Mamombe, it was resolved to rally behind Chamisa and to expose everyone who would want to challenge Chamisa’s authority within that party.
According to the source, Chamisa told the meeting that the current CCC leadership that includes Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti and Charlton Hwende were spent forces who should be relegated to less influential positions.
The source said Chamisa told the attendees that he tried to mould Ncube, Biti and Hwende into a leadership he desired but they failed as they were still stuck in the old ways of doing things. Chamisa reportedly informed those who attended the meeting that he was set to announce a National Executive Committee (NEC) early next year and that structure would mainly be composed of the youths.
The same source further revealed that Chamisa had plans to get rid of the old guards because they were his arch rivals and were clandestinely plotting to dethrone him.
Meanwhile, there are reports that some CCC senior members were plotting to form a splinter party as they no longer have faith in Chamisa’s leadership. Reports suggest that some sitting CCC legislators were telling their constituencies that they should not rally behind Chamisa as he was an autocratic leader.
