The launch of the Bulawayo-based Keyona TV will boost the Bulawayo creative sector.
This was said by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa over the weekend during the launch of the television station.
Minister Mutsvangwa said that the launch was a demonstration of the New Dispensation`s commitment to opening the airwaves.
“The launch of Keyona TV is testimony that we a listening Government. With Bulawayo being the cultural capital of the country, Keyona TV is set to unlock the city`s potential in the creative sector,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
Keyona TV Chief Executive Officer, Dr Qhubani Moyo stated that the launch of the TV station was a historic moment for the Bulawayo citizens adding that the city was home to many creatives, thereby unlocking Bulawayo city`s potential in the creative industry.
Acknowledging the launch of the TV, Minister of State for Bulawayo on Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube highlighted that the launch of Keyona TV was a consolidation of the city`s status as a hub of creative arts.
“The launch of Keyona TV is a consolidation of Bulawayo`s status as a hub of creative arts. Moreover, more employment opportunities will be created for hundreds of youths,” she said.
Keyona TV becomes the third television station to be launched under the Second Republic after ZTN and 3KTV which went live earlier in the year. The three are part of the six free to air national commercial television stations which the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) in November 2020.The other stations are Kumba TV, NRTV and Channel D.
