Under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe has witnessed the restoration of Zimbabwe’s dignity owing to the many reforms that have been recorded in fiscal management, legislation and political participation, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa has said.
She said this whilst speaking at the First Edition of the Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC) Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Summit (SASS) at Golden Conifer today.
“However, I am particularly grateful to the transformative political culture that has been created by the Second-Republic through the promotion of the engagement and re-engagement policy. Under the leadership of His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa we have witnessed the restoration of Zimbabwe's dignity owing to the many reforms that have been recorded in fiscal management, legislation and political participation,” said Mutsvangwa.
Minister Mutsvangwa’s remarks echoes those of Assistant Minister of International Department in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr. Li Mingxiang, who has also said within a short space of time President Mnangagwa’s Government has been able to tame inflation, price stabilization and food security through actively formulating and implementing economic development plans.
Despite the onslaught of COVID-19 and the effects of Russia-Ukraine war, Zimbabwe’s economy has surpassed recovery and has begun a growth trajectory where gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to reach US$23.50 billion by the end of 2022.
In 2019 President Mnangagwa launched the US$12 billion mining industry strategic roadmap to be achieved by 2023. In response, leading mining companies such as Blanket Mine, Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) and Duration Gold Mine are seized with implementation of various expansion stages so as to help achieve the US$12 billion target. Mining sector has already announced attaining the US$8 billion mark.
Through leadership strategies by President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe has also managed to realize a record wheat harvest of 380 000 MT against a national requirement of 360 000 MT. This record harvest since 1966 when the country started growing the crop, has ensured that Zimbabwe is now wheat self-sufficient. Government has also embarked on construction of surface water reservoirs such as Kunzvi Dam and Lake Gwayi-Shangani to ensure an abundant supply of irrigation water to Bulawayo and local farmers.
Meanwhile, SASS 2022 is running under the theme ‘Building Media Sector Resilience and Sustainable Reforms that Leave No One and No Place Behind’. The goal of the summit is to bring Zimbabweans and media players to discuss ways of ring-fencing the sector against the punitive effects of the illegal sanctions. The summit is also meant to strengthen the solidarity between Zimbabwe, SADC and the AU.
