The dismal performance by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in the just ended by elections has caused pandemonium within that opposition party as members are blaming each other for the electoral defeat.
Six by-elections were held across the country last Saturday and CCC only managed to snatch one local authority ward with the rest going to ZANU PF. However, the defeat did not go well with some CCC members who are blaming their leader, Nelson Chamisa for failing to steer the party to victory.
A source who spoke to this publication said that the blame is being squared on Chamisa, interim organising secretary; Amos Chibaya and interim secretary general, Charlton Hwende for failing to provide leadership as far as elections were concerned.
“Chamisa should take the blame for this defeat. As a leader, he has failed to mobilise party members to participate in the by-elections. It seems people are already fed up with CCC, hence they didn’t vote for it,” said the source.
The source added that some CCC members are calling for Chibaya’s head as they accuse him of lacing mobilisation skills.
“Already, there is comparison between Chibaya and former organising secretary, Abednego Bhebhe. Members are accusing Chibaya of lacking mobilisation skills needed to win an election. There is a general consensus within the party that the current organising department should be disbanded as it has failed to deliver its expected mandate,” added the source.
The same source added that another clique in the CCC was blaming Hwende for the recent defeat. Hwende is being accused of lying that the Mugwazo mobilisation strategy was bearing fruits but results on the ground were not supporting that assertion.
“Hwende is being blamed for misleading the party by claiming that the Mugwazo strategy was bearing fruits. If your memory serves you well, you will recognise that it was only Hwende who was promoting this Mugwazo strategy arguing that it would steer CCC to victory. It’s now clear that the Mugwazo strategy failed to work in the just ended by elections,” added the source.
Meanwhile, CCC is expected to hold an emergency meeting to discuss why they were heavily defeated by ZANU PF in the weekend by elections.
