In a move that would leave the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa nameless, the MDC Alliance principals led by MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora met at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare and called on Chamisa to desist from using the name MDC Alliance and symbols. The Alliance invited other opposition parties to join it.

Speaking through a press statement after the pact meeting, the MDC Alliance said, “The meeting, noted the continued abuse of the MDC Alliance name and symbols and urged those doing so to desist from the practice forthwith.

“The meeting further agreed that it heartily welcomes and accepts any political players who subscribe to MDC Alliance ethos,” read part of the statement.

The several political parties that form the pact pledged their allegiance to MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora, indicating that they were open to any other progressive opposition parties who may want to join the alliance.

“The various political party leaders, acknowledged president Mwonzora as the leader of the MDC Alliance, in line with the constituting document of the pact,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s two main parties namely ZANU PF and MDC-T are set to receive the ZW$200 million budgeted under the Political Parties Finances Act in proportion to their votes.  ZANU PF will receive ZW$140 million, while the MDC Alliance will get ZW$60 million for its 30% votes won.
