MDC Treasurer General David Coltart has been heavily criticised by citizens for peddling falsehoods on the alleged abduction of a former soldier Solomon Chanengeta of Karoi.
Citizens accuse the opposition for systematically faking abductions to tarnish the image of the Government especially towards international events. The citizens argued that Chanengeta was a deserter and was supposed to be handed over to the Police for questioning, according to the Defence Act.
On Saturday, Coltart the alarmist on his Twitter handle claimed that Chanengeta had been abducted by six men who claimed to be soldiers from Karoi.
“I am informed by the family of Solomon Chanengeta that he was abducted by six men in plainclothes, claiming to be soldiers from 451 Muzaradope street, Karoi at about 10pm this evening and driven away in a Honda Fit. If anyone has information please contact +27781769063,” posted Coltart.
Coltart later posted that he had received a message from Chanengeta’s brother informing him that he had found Chanengeta at Karoi Police Station where he was being questioned about his leaving the military and that he had not been charged.
Responding to the abduction allegations, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana said the timing of the alleged kidnapping had a pattern. “On the International calendar of events, there are two programmes, UNGA and COP26. The script has not changed, fake abductions and attribute them to the State, break the law in the name of some Universal Right and get arrested and draw world attention, characters same,” he tweeted.
Bertha Mwonzora, daughter to MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora responded, “When you don’t understand the difference between an abduction and an arrest, everything is a conspiracy to you. Crying foul all the time is such a disservice because if one day a real victim needs to raise an alarm, you’ve desensitized your audience.”
Mambosha@mambosha responded, “In other words this was a wanted man, deserter who was arrested for desertion in terms of the Defence Act and correctly handed over to the Police. So where is the kidnapping?”
In 2020, former MDC-Alliance high ranking official, Tapiwa Mashakada exposed in stunning detail how the opposition working in cahoots with the American Embassy faked abductions to tarnish the image of the Second Republic.
Mr Mashakada exposed how Dr Peter Magombeyi in September 2019 faked his abduction. Joana Mamombe and team later faked another abduction which analysts said was just a tip of the shenanigans in the opposition party that was determined to derail the Second Republic’s re-engagement efforts.
