People should stop rating the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s popularity by the votes he garnered in 2018 as a presidential candidate as the results are not a true reflection of Chamisa’s political status.
In an interview with Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa yesterday, the MDC T president Douglas Mwonzora said there are MDC Alliance members who worked tirelessly in 2018 for Chamisa to garner the over two million votes.
“Nelson Chamisa is overrated. People should stop making a mistake of thinking that the over two million votes he garnered in 2018 is testimony that he is popular. Remember that I together with the likes of Morgan Komichi, Elias Mudzuri, Paurina Mpariwa and Tapiwa Mashakada among others vigorously campaigned for Chamisa in 2018. So the votes he garnered are as a result of the collective effort of the then MDC Alliance members. He (Chamisa) alone cannot garner the two million votes, he is not that popular,” said Mwonzora.
Mwonzora said Chamisa should stop underrating him as time has proved that Mwonzora is a political strategist than Chamisa.
“He (Chamisa) should stop underrating me. I have defeated him in every party elections I have contested against him. I have defeated him during the battle of control of Harvest House. He has suffered several defeats against me. I wonder why people say that Chamisa is a political strategist. What meaningful thing has he ever strategized?” quarried Mwonzora.
Mwonzora added that the MDC T meeting are being oversubscribed in sharp contrast to the MDC Alliance meetings that are being attended by a paltry crowd.
“Last week we had restructuring meetings and it was full house. We ended up turning people away due to the Covid 19 regulations. But if you look at the meeting addressed by Charlton Hwende you will feel pity for the MDC Alliance. Hwende addressed eight people in his home area of Mhondoro. Of the eight, one was his driver and four were part of his entourage he was travelling with,” said Mwonzora.
Mwonzora who reiterated that he is a genuine opposition member not under the wings of the ruling ZANU PF, commended the New Dispensation of opening the political space to allow the opposition parties to proffer ideas on how to develop the country.
Mwonzora further said that under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, the level of violence has significantly decreased within the country and the economy has become relatively stable.
