President Emmerson Mnangagwa today encouraged Primary and Secondary school sectors to align their curriculum with the Education 5.0 model.
Speaking during his tour of the University of Zimbabwe Innovation Hub today, President Mnangagwa emphasised that the New Curriculum was not an end in itself.
“There is also an urgent need to align the Primary and Secondary Education sector to the Education 5.0 model. The teaching of the competency based New Curriculum must have the bigger picture in mind; it should never be perceived as an end in itself.
“Universities and institutions of higher learning must partner primary and secondary schools in their provinces to nurture the culture of innovation and inventions among the young learners,” said the President.
The President warned against lazy Ministries, Departments and Agencies, who continue to give excuses for non-performance, reminding them that the Second Republic was here for action.
“The culture of mourning and excuses is not acceptable, this administration is about action, solutions and results, to this there is no going back.
“I urge the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to take a leaf from this sector and make a deliberate decision to think outside the box,” President Mnangagwa said.
The concept of the innovation hubs was birthed by President Mnangagwa after he had observed gaps within the country’s industrialisation and modernisation continuum during his tour at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), coupled with consultative meetings he held with the Captains of Industry and the leadership of the institutions of higher learning and the need to develop a transformative innovation curriculum which is tailored to produce goods and services required by our country.
Likewise, the President praised the University of Zimbabwe for the successful establishment of the innovation hub.
“It is encouraging to witness the strides made by the University of Zimbabwe towards the actualisation of Education 5.0. The successful establishment and operationalisation of the Innovation Hub and Agro Industrial Park is commendable and a demonstration of the determination and focus of the leadership at this University,” said the President.
