Armed robbers on the loose

by Staff reporter

Armed robbers pounced on an unsuspecting Kenny Fungai Mudonhi and robbed him of ZAR6 000, in the Avenues area near Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital this Tuesday.

The case was reported at ZRP Harare Central but details of arrest were not yet available at the time of going to press.

The events leading to the armed robbery are that Mudonhi approached  a foreign currency dealer identified as Hatzel Ruzvidzo with the intention of converting his ZAR6000 to United State Dollar (US$).

The two proceeded to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where they were joined by two other people who had a black Toyota Auras to conduct the transaction.  Mudonhi was then invited to enter into their car so that they can conduct the transaction in the privacy of the car.  As soon as he entered, a piston was produced and pointed at him, and the armed robbers demanded that he surrender his cash to them.

Meanwhile, on the 19th of April, eight smugglers, (two Zimbabweans and six Zambians), were arrested by a joint patrol team, which consisted of security forces and the Zimbabwe National Park Wildlife Management Authority Rangers in the area of Malala fishing camp in Binga.

The patrol team recovered contraband of 275 bales of pharmaceuticals, new clothes and fishing nets. They proceeded to confiscate two Zambian motorised fibre boats. The police have applied for a warrant of further detention of the suspects as they await the valuation of the smuggled goods from ZIMRA.

Shockingly one of the suspects, Sifelani Ncube attempted escape from custody with the help of Sergeant Trainos Chiwundura who is believed to have been working in cahoots with the suspects.
