Plot to discredit Mwonzora exposed

Irked by the fact that the MDC T received the political parties fund amounting to ZW$61million, the MDC Alliance through one Leonard Chisvo is trying to fan political discord within the MDC T through a petition calling for the arrest of MDC T leader Douglas Mwonzora on allegations that he stole and abused party funds to the tune of ZW$6million.

This has been exposed through a leaked petition sent to the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, calling for his arrest.

The leaked petition that was originated by Chisvo, has been making rounds on social media, demanding that Mwonzora be arrested on clearly cooked up charges of stealing and misappropriating MDC T funds.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the members of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC T), (we) hereby petition the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to arrest Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora for;

“Theft of MDC T funds to the tune of $6million; money laundering in violation of Zimbabwe Foreign Currency Exchange Control Act and blatant disregard of the country’s anti-corruption policy,” read part of the petition.

In his defence, Mwonzora outlined how that party’s funds were used and distributed. He mentioned paying the lawyers that had represented and continue to represent the MDC T in trials at the different courts of law.

He also mentioned that some of the money was used to pay MDC T workers at Harvest House, who had gone for a long time without receiving any remuneration.  And finally he also used some of it to pay for the venue that was used to hold their December 2020 Extra Ordinary Congress (EOC).

MDC T vice president Thokozani Khupe, was on record disputing the allegation that Mwonzora had misappropriated any party funds.

It has, however, boggled the mind of members of the MDC T who revealed that Chisvo was not a member of the MDC T, and had no standing to originate a petition on behalf of the MDC T party.
