President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to receive his second dose of Sinovac (Covid-19) vaccine in Kwekwe today, as part of Government vaccination mobilisation drive and confidence boosting on the safety of the drug.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet briefing, this Wednesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa encouraged the nation to proceed with their vaccination process as well.
“The nation is advised that His Excellency the President will be receiving his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine tomorrow at Kwekwe Hospital.
“Cabinet wishes to assure the nation that citizens can receive their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccines anywhere in the country without prejudice,” she said.
This second dose follows the President having received the first shot in Victoria Falls last month, with current statistics showing that a total of 288 229 and 36 778 people have since received their first and second dose, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) is carrying out vaccination campaigns countrywide, with strong COVID-19 surveillance system which capacitate Government to detect early outbreaks also in place.
Cabinet was further informed that on 16th April 2021 more outbreaks were reported at St. Davids Bonda Girls School, in Manicaland and Embakwe High School in Plumtree where 145 and 91 learners tested positive, respectively.
However Government re-assured that the situation was under control and all the cases are mild and asymptomatic.
Against this background, the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education; and Health and Child Care were reported to have intensified enforcement of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures in all schools, while Government deferred the reopening of other public spheres.
“Cabinet has deferred consideration of the opening of bars and night clubs until further notice,” advised Minister Mutsvangwa.
Law and Order was also tasked to increase surveillance on public transporters a Cabinet had noted an increased flouting of COVID-19 prevention control measures by the public transport system.
