The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Zhemu Soda, said people should not panic due to power outages being experienced in some parts of the country as they are not a result of load shedding.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Minister Soda said there is no power generation issues in the country, hence people should not panic.
“We do not have power generation issues and the problem that was experienced are faults which can be corrected without much inconvenience caused.
“The problems will be looked at by engineers and technicians, but I think they are just faults occasioned by the heavy rains. We could have been worried if there was a problem in generation,” said Minister Soda.
Recently, there were some power outages in some parts of central Harare due to old trees falling on power lines as a result of heavy windy rains.
The Government has since directed that property owners in Harare to trim or cut down overgrown trees as they now pose a risk to power lines.
Harare Provincial Development Coordinator, Tafadzwa Muguti, told this publication last week that failure to cut down trees that will result in the damage of power lines will now attract a hefty penalty for the property owners.
The country is enjoying a steady supply of electricity due to the improvements of water levels at Kariba Hydro Power station as well as the ongoing rehabilitation of Hwange Thermal Power station.
