Netizens have yesterday accused Former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development and self-exiled G40 kingpin, Professor Jonathan Moyo of downplaying rape accusations being leveled against him by modeling instructor Mrs Sipho Mazibuko.
Mrs Mazibuko alleged last Friday that she was sexually abused by Professor Moyo some 11 years ago and she failed to get justice as Moyo used his influence to make the case die a silent death.
However, Professor Moyo yesterday chose to treat the accusations being leveled against him as a political persecution meant to tarnish his image.
Moyo instead spend the better part of yesterday attacking The Herald editor, Hatred Zenenga, for publishing the story.
Netizens were quick to remind Professor Moyo that he must not try to turn himself into a victim when he is actually the perpetrator.
“No Jonathan Moyo, this is a serious matter.Dont try to water down the issue by making a joke out of it.We want you to explain and defend yourself against these grace allegations, ”tweeted one Tafara Shumba.
Another netizen, Thembi Moyo, said there was a grain of truth in what Mrs Mazibuko said and urged Professor Moyo to admit to his wrongdoings instead of hiding behind a finger.
“From your response, it’s clear you knew the woman in question. However, we all know that no criminal readily admits that he committed a crime. It was wiser for you to say it was consensual instead of denying the whole episode. Let’s hope you will be able to clear your name, but as it stands, the odds are against you,” said Thembi.
Another netizen,@BabaJunior said Professor Moyo should not vent his anger on The Herald editor but must come out in the open and tell his side of the story concerning the rape allegations being leveled against him by Mazibuko.
Another netizen, Gugu Ncube said Professor Moyo has a history of abusing woman and further said Pax Afro musical group was disbanded after its female members were frequently sexually abused by Professor Moyo.
Professor Moyo is believed to be in hiding in Kenya and besides the rape charges currently being leveled against him, he is also wanted by the Police to answer to the charges of embezzling US$244 575 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef).
