Bulawayo nomination process null and void: Mudzuri

Engineer Elias Mudzuri says the MDC-T nomination process held in Bulawayo over the weekend is null and void, as it was marred by a lot of electoral malpractices.

Mudzuri, who was one of Tsvangirai’s deputies when he died of cancer of the colon in 2018, tweeted yesterday that the nomination process was not free and fair.

“The MDC-T Bulawayo nomination process was grossly flawed and therefore null and void. For the remaining provinces we must ensure the process is transparent, free, fair and credible,” tweeted Mudzuri.

Mudzuri further said in future nomination processes, the list of delegates who will participate should be availed on time for verification.

“Genuine MDC-T delegates’ lists for the nomination process must be availed on time for verification. Only a list agreed upon by all candidates must be used for accreditation purposes. Those presiding over the process must be neutral and agreed to by all the candidates,” said Mudzuri.

The media was awash with news that MDC-T Bulawayo nomination process was smooth with no irregularities.

However, various MDC-T leaders like Morgan Komichi and Kaliphani Pugeni dismissed the Bulawayo nomination process as incomplete as it was invaded by members of the MDC-Alliance led by that party’s Organizing Secretary, Amos Chibaya.

The nomination process was then aborted before final votes could be tallied, however, the MDC-Alliance started to spread news that Abedinigo Bhebhe was nominated by 170 people, although the Electoral College was constitutionally made up of 115 people.

The MDC-T is set to hold an extraordinary congress later this year to choose a substantive leader who will replace the late Tsvangirai. Currently, Thokozani Khupe is the acting president of that party.
