The Ministry of Information said, “It’s a historic day for the nation and the academic fraternity as Chancellor of Chinhoyi University of Technology, President Mnangagwa will oversee a virtual graduation ceremony due to COVID-19 restrictions. 2292 graduands are expected to be conferred with various degrees, 45% are females.
“This is the 16th graduation anniversary for CUT, most of the graduands will be able to livestream the event from the comfort of their homes through various platforms that are available including ZTV and CUT Facebook page.
“Those graduating virtually will follow proceedings in their gowns and respond to announcements as shall be beamed on the stated platforms. Phd graduands, first class recipients and book prize recipients are attending thereby limiting the number to less than 100,” said the Ministry.
The graduation is being held virtually in line with the current COVID-19 pandemic regulations with the exception of selected students who are representing their classes.
CUT Vice Chancellor, Prof David Simbi while addressing the graduation ceremony said, “Students have worked hard to achieve their goals in the midst of challenges emanating from COVID-19. However, COVID-19 is the new norm which education institutions have to work with.”
