In a worrying trend, The MDC-A security personnel assaulted a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Cooperation (ZBC) journalist at Gwanda District Club yesterday where that party leader, Nelson Chamisa was addressing a meeting.
ZBC posted about the incident on its twitter handle, revealing that the journalist was filming outside when he was attacked.
“ZBC cameraperson slapped by MDC-A security detail at Gwanda District Club where party leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing a meeting. The cameraperson was filming outside the venue when he was attacked,” ZBC tweeted.
Commenting on the incident, Desmond Mushai condemned violence and observed that if it had been ZANU PF security the issue would have gained more traction especially on social media, “Haaa but violence should never be condoned on whatever grounds. Mangwana independent journalist akarohwavo kuZANU PF, we make noise about it. But at the end of the day, it is all violence. Let us shun it.”
The MDC-A is a party that breeds on violence, this incident follows another journalist, Robert Tapfumaneyi who suffered the same fate, after being assaulted by the same security team.
Tapfumaneyi was harassed and attacked by MDC-A security staff who accused him of working for the State Broadcaster, ZBC. The security staff also grabbed his camera and threw it to the floor and prevented him from covering the event.
