…as kingpins form own parties

Sharp differences within the self-exiled members of the Generation 40, are speedily tearing the cabal apart with top dogs forming individual political parties, the Harare Post reports.

Former minister of Foreign Affairs, Walter Mzembi is the latest to cut relationship with his erstwhile associates to form his own political party, the People’s Party.

Mzembi, who is to be deputised by a fellow G40 member, Godfrey Gandawa, was in the Zimbabwe Generation 40 party that was duly registered with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in September 2019.

In a letter written to the Westminster Foundation, Advocate Lloyd Msipa said, “The People’s Party has invited the former Zimbabwe Foreign Minister, Dr Walter Mzembi as the interim President, deputised by former deputy minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr Godfery Gandawa.”

Political analysts said the nomination of both Mzembi and Gandawa is evidence that the political party is merely a means to steal the country’s wealth given the two’s history on corruption.

Mzembi is currently in self-exile, running away from a plethora of corruption charges, misappropriation and diversion of funds, abuse of more than USD2 million from the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ), while Gandawa misappropriated ZIMDEF funds together with his then minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo who is also in self-exile.

As if confessing to their treachery and corrupt activities, Msipa adds that “the mission of the People’s Party is to establish for the first time in our history a fair and just society which will enable the Zimbabweans to unleash their talents and ingenuity so that their potential can be fully realised.”

It would appear that greed and a desire for the bigger slice of the cake has motivated Mzembi to snub an opportunity to present a united front with his corrupt friends in the G40 party.
