Self-exiled former cabinet Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo’s book titled Excelgate, in which he purportedly exposed how the 2018 Presidential elections were rigged, has been dismissed by political analysts labelling him as just ‘clutching on straws.’
Prof Moyo’s argument, presented on his micro blogging site, insists that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) invented a route against the one prescribed by law to transmit the results of the presidential election to Harare for illegal collation.
He tweeted, “While ZEC denied in the ConCourt running the presidential election illegally, it's report done in terms of the law and tabled in Parliament confesses to a gross illegality, that exposes (President) Mnangagwa's "victory" as a result of an invalid election & fraud. No need for any V11!”
Responding to Prof Moyo’s claims, former Presidential Advisor, Petina Gappah tweeted, “I am struggling to understand this. Can anyone help? If Prof Moyo is correct in his facts and conclusions, it means V11s were entirely irrelevant. Where then did V11s come from to prove Chamisa won with 2.6 mil? Why was the MDC case based on V11s? And why’ve MDC not published them?”
Muchinda Mubvumbugwa shared Gappah’s sentiments saying, “Prof Moyo’s Excelgate is just an attempt to clutch on straws. Nelson Chamisa lost the 2018 Presidential elections but they do not want to accept as this will take away their leverage point.”
Ever since being ousted from office and going into exile, Prof Moyo has been relentless in his criticism of President Mnangagwa and his administration and his book, Excelgate is just another way to attack President Mnangagwa and attempt at staying relevant in the Zimbabwean politics.
