Zanu PF Secretary for Administration who is also the Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Obert Mpofu who was standing in for President Emmerson Mnangagwa said all citizens were free to vote for their preferred leader without any fear of victimisation, harassment and intimidation.

Dr Mpofu said these remarks this Tuesday, at a signing ceremony of the Peace Pledge document by leaders of different political parties in Harare.

The signing ceremony of the Peace Pledge document was done to ensure that there is a peaceful election environment in the country, before, during and after elections.

Giving his remarks, Minister Mpofu said the ruling party was part of the peace pledge signing ceremony so as to heal the wounds of a post conflict.

The Zanu PF Secretary for Administration said, “Peace is not about opening up the wounds but healing the wounds, and that’s what Zanu PF stands for.”

He said, “As Zanu PF we subscribe to what icons like President Mnangagwa and the late Vice President Joshua M Nkomo believed, that peace begins with you, that peace begins with me, and peace begins with all of us, including all the citizens of this country, be they  policemen, soldiers or other institutions.”

Minister Mpofu condemned the bomb attack on Zanu PF rally in Bulawayo last Saturday, saying such barbaric acts could not be condoned in our country.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba encouraged all political parties who were present to sincerely sign the peace pledge document and demonstrate maturity remembering that there is tomorrow.

Justice Chigumba said, “All political parties should abide by the law, thus, the Constitution and the Electoral law as they are the instruments that define the rules of the electoral game.”

The Peace pledge signing ceremony was organised by the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission and was attended by at least 15 political party leaders.
