The National Chairman of the MDC-T faction led by Nelson Chamisa, Mr. Morgan Komichi, said MDC Alliance would embark on demonstrations next week if the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC) did not accede to their demands.
Speaking during the signing ceremony of a peace pledge, by 17 of the twenty-three presidential aspirants, to desist from perpetrating acts of violence in the forthcoming elections, in Harare today, Mr. Komichi said ZEC held the key to peace in Country.
“Let us not use the law as a means to frustrate the stakeholders…we would not be on the street if the ZEC was transparent, but we will be on the street next week if we don’t get our demands,” said Mr. Komichi.
Speaking during the same event, Zanu PF secretary for Administration, Dr. Obert Mpofu who was standing in for President Emmerson Mnangagwa said peace was not about opening up wounds but healing the wounds.
“We subscribe to the clarion call for peace by my president, President Mnangagwa, and our late icon Vice President John Nkomo that peace begins with all of us” said Dr. Mpofu
Turning to the bomb incident at a Zanu PF Bulawayo rally over the weekend, Dr. Mpofu said such barbaric acts could not be condoned in our country.
Dr. Mpofu attributed the heinous act at White City Stadium to evil people who, while the nation is planning for peace, they plan for violence instead.
Conspicuous by her absence at the peace pledge signing ceremony was DR. Joice Mujuru of People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC). The pledge is an initiative of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC)
