Attempts by MDC vice president, Professor Welshman Ncube to reverse the resignation of that party’s national spokesperson, Daniel Molokele has divided the already divided party, the Harare Post can report.
Professor Ncube persuaded Molokele to withdraw his resignation as he feared that his faction, consisted of mainly Ndebeles, would be weakened.
Molokele tendered his resignation to MDC Secretary General Charlton Hwende after he got frustrated of being side-lined as prominence is being given to his deputy, Luke Tamborinyoka.
The resignation by Molokele was acknowledged by Hwende who had already made some moves to appoint Tamborinyoka as the new national spokesperson.
However, the MDC leader Nelson Chamisa was approached by Professor Ncube over the resignation by Molokele. According to sources, Chamisa needs Molokele to retain his post as he fears that his exit may widen tribal wars in the party.
Sources revealed that Hwende has strongly refused to reverse the resignation despite a directive to do so by Chamisa.
“The resignation letter by Molokeli was welcomed by Hwende who already wanted Molokele out. Hwende and his allies do not trust the Ndebele people in the leadership circles.
“However, in as much as Chamisa would want Molekele out, he now fears that the tribal wars that are already in the MDC party will worsen. As a result, Chamisa wants Molokele to retain his post,” revealed the source.
It is alleged that Professor Ncube wants to take control of Matabeleland region and Molokele is one of his foot soldiers.
The source revealed that Professor Ncube is now working closely with the Mthwakazi people so as to frustrate the MDC Shona members in Matabeleland region.
