‘Harare now resembles a ghost town’

Harare City Council has been exposed for being corrupt and being in shambles as they are failing to run the city effectively.

MDC T Vice President, Obert Gutu has revealed on his twitter handle how the council is failing to deliver services.

“City of Harare is a complete shambles. Absolutely pathetic! City of Harare doesn't even have a functional billing system for rates and other supplementary charges. It's a complete dog's breakfast. When some of us argue that City of Harare is corrupt to the bare bones, some people accuse us of playing politics. Harare is rotten because of rampant corruption, period!” he said.

He went on to say, “I have nothing personal against City of Harare councillors but the truth of the matter is that they have hopelessly failed to run the city. Harare now resembles a ghost town, no water, collapsed roads, heaps of uncollected garbage, no billing system at Rowan Martin Treasury Dept, it is a mess.”

This comes after an audit was carried out by an investigations team set up by the Harare City Council to look into the sales and lease of commercial land. The audit revealed that the Harare City Council had no credible land bank and could not therefore produce comprehensive land management plans and it has no database of the sold properties for the past three years.

Harare City Council is also entangled in a nepotism storm after it was learnt that councillors could be seconding their relatives for jobs in the different departments.
