MDC walk-out on ED: Citizens react

By Tendai Matunhu

Citizens have come out chastising the MDC MPs for snubbing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), saying they were practising double standards by labelling the President illegitimate when they took their oaths before him.

Mgcini Nxumalo had no kind words for the opposition legislators. “Confused cockroaches, they took the oath before him and now they say they don't recognise him as the Head of State. So funny,” he tweeted.

Admire Milton also tweeted saying, “A mosquito leaving the bedroom is hardly a bother for a person trying to sleep. They are in consequential - the laws they are fighting for will be signed into law by whom? When they were sworn in after president assuming office which President was it?”

Citizens have also castigated the move by the MDC MPs saying their walking out was irrelevant and that they are just greedy people and immature.

One netizen, Chief Chikwizo tweeted saying, “MDC has no structural influence in Parliament, so walking in or staying is the same, they can't move a motion and pass. They are way too few to be heard. Temba ari one is equivalent to a whole party without a majority in Parliament.”

Chenjerai Gachange also tweeted castigating the MDC MPs who had walked out saying, “MDC is full of idiots, evil politicians, fun part of it they are saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa is illegitimate but pakanzi pabuda maFord Ranger vanomhanyidzana, last time vakanzi maDiplomatic passports vakafara zvisingaite unotadza kuziva kuti iOpposition party yerudziiko.” (They are saying President Mnangagwa is illegitimate, but when cars come they compete for them, same with the diplomatic passport. One fails to understand what kind of opposition they are.)

Tamuka Mafunga also said, “Unrepentant Jecharists MDC MPs walked out of Parliament when President Mnangagwa started delivering his State of the Nation Address. It’s sad that after being paid from tax payers’ money, they show such a barbaric behaviour.”
