MDC to stage fresh round of demonstrations

The MDC has planned to stage a fresh wave of demonstrations which they have tentatively slated for the 29th and 30th of this month, The Harare Post can reveal.

Speaking at that party’s National Standing Committee meeting at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House (MRTH) last week, the MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa said they were going to decentralise the demonstrations to districts were no longer going to notify the police of their intended protests.

He urged party members to come up with new strategies which would bring Zanu PF to negotiating table. He said the party must be innovative to match Zanu PF’s ingenuity in maintaining hold on power.

Chamisa directed the party’s secretary for international relations, Gladys Hlatshwayo to baby-sit the compilation of reports of alleged violence and abductions in each province. He said there was need to exaggerate the report since it will be forwarded to the African Union, European Union, United Nations, International Criminal Court, and the Commonwealth. He bemoaned the support that SADC was rendering to Zanu PF government.

Speaking at the same meeting, the party’s organising secretary, Amos Chibaya reported that the party’s grassroots were not happy with the way the national leadership handles demonstrations. The secretary general, Chalton Hwende echoed Chibaya’s sentiments saying the party members accuse the leadership of failing to lead from the front.

The two urged Chamisa to come up with a programme that will see him address the party members so as to pacify them. They said failure to do so would see them shunning any future demonstrations.
