The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) has revealed to this publication that it is still working in cyclone Idai hit areas of Chimanimani with the assistance of South African Defence Force (SADF).
Speaking at their stand at the Harare Agricultural Show today, Major Taurai Mamvere of the Human Resources department in the ZDF said that defence forces was still working in Chimanimani Cyclonne Idai hit areas with the help of the SADF in constructing bridges that connect destroyed roads. He said the bridges would help farmers especially those who specialise in avocado and banana farming in the area who are failing to transport them to the market.
Major Mamvere further highlighted that it is not only advantageous to farmers but the communities there. He commended efforts being made by SADF and the relief aid that came in from Zimbabweans, regional and international community saying their assistance will go a long way.
He said that all the donated items were being stored in a safe warehouse in Mutare and donations for Cyclone Idai victims are still welcome and can be given to the Office of the President and Cabinet which will forward them to the warehouse for further distribution to the affected communities.
At the same stand, the ZDF is showcasing its farm produce which it produces through its Farming Production Department (FDP). The ZDF is into livestock and vegetable farming thereby producing food for its staff compliment that will be training and selling the excess to the public. They highlighted that their farming produce comes from a Marondera Farm, Mushandike in Masvingo and Battlefields.
