The Innovation Hub and Strategic plan document launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the University of Zimbabwe yesterday is expected to transform the country`s education system into producing industrialists and innovators instead of mere job seekers.
Speaking at the launch of the first Innovation Hub and the launch of the University`s Strategic Plan (2019-2015), President Mnangagwa said that without innovation, the country risked falling behind or sinking into a passive State.
“Hence, without innovation, our country risks falling in us missing the immense opportunities availed by the current development epoch.
“It is against this background that the twin milestone achievements which we are witnessing today have far reaching implications,” said the President.
The President also indicated that the era of job seekers has come to an end with the education model that empowers human capital.
“The era of an education system which is tailored to simply create a literate but unskilled people or a market of mere job seekers has come to an end. Under the Second Republic, we shall diligently pursue an education model that intellectually empowers our human capital so that it seeks, responds and adapts to the ever changing world,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa also said that relevant education was essential for Zimbabwe to attain Vision 2030.
“Relevant education and skills development is indeed an indispensable ingredient, as we accelerate the achievement of Vision 2030,” he said.
The Innovation Hub will facilitate Government`s ongoing quest to, improve the quality of people`s livelihoods and also to create high skilled jobs as well as promote entrepreneurship.
