Chamisa in land scam

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa, has been dragged in a City of Harare Council land scam together with his shadow minister of Local Government, Clifford Hlatywayo, who is accused of demanding land from MDC Councilors in the name of their political party.

An appeal has since been filed with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to investigate the matter.

An MDC source privy to the scandal told the Harare Post that a Trust, Smartprides, reportedly owned by Chamisa, was allocated 49 000 square metres of land in Harare and is a front entity which the pair is using to grab land in the capital city under the pretext of building a conference center for that party.

The source confided to this publication that Hlatywayo is being used to further Chamisa’s businesses and empire which includes car sales, residential, industrial and commercial properties.

Hlathyahyo, who is an employee of the City of Harare’s Fire Division, is said to be using his influence to push Council employees at Rowan Martin to speed up the scandalous land acquisitions.

It also emerged that Chamisa had been removing those Mayors in and around Harare, who he perceived would resist him to pave way for his land grabbing shenanigans.

The development comes at a time the opposition leader is struggling to shrug off his association with the former First Family (the Mugabes) who stand accused of grabbing various houses, properties and farms around Zimbabwe.
