Reserve Bank Govenor, Dr John Mangudya, today launched the HomeLink housing scheme in Brockdale Bindura as part of Government’s efforts to alleviate housing shortages in the country.
This is only one of the several such projects that HomeLink will be launching throughout the country with Mutare, Bulawayo and Gweru to follow soon, revealed Dr Mangudya during the Brockdale ground-breaking ceremony.
“In response to the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa)’s call to provide adequate housing for all, HomeLink will be working to complement other Government programs on housing by launching schemes similar to the one you are witnessing today, in Mutare, Bulawayo and Gweru with the overall goal being that we cover as much ground as we can throughout the country,” said Dr Mangudya.
The Governor commended the banking sector for taking a leading role in providing affordable housing and noted that banks had increased their housing projects throughout the country.
“We have noted with great pride, an increase in the number of houses built this year from the 2016 figure of 1531 units to the 2017 figure of 7500 units and this year already, 12 000 units are expected from the banking sector,” said the Govenor.
In his opening remarks, HomeLink Board Chairman, Happymore Mapara expressed gratitude at RBZ and Government’s continued support.
Mapara similarly reiterated Dr Mangudya’s remarks that the Rockdale project was only one of many housing projects that Homelink will be unveiling throughout the country in the next few months.
“The project in Bindura’s Brockdale will have 329 units worth eight million dollars and HomeLink has already secured 1000 more units in Bulawayo which we wish to start working on as soon as possible,” said Mapara.
