Invest Solar Africa (ISA) has commenced its solar project in Dema which will go a long way in alleviating electricity challenges in Chitungwiza, Dema Business Centre and the surrounding communities.
A Senior Government official who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that ISA project has commenced construction of its 70 Megawatts (MW) solar project in Dema. He added that the project would be implemented in three phases.
“We are pleased to note that the 70 MW solar project in Dema, Seke district, has just commenced. The project will be implemented in three phases, that will be 20 MW, 20 MW and 30 MW respectively.
“The project financiers include Old Mutual, Exponent of South Africa and Equity Finance from the American investors.
“The first phase of 20 MW solar plant which is estimated to cost US $125 million is expected to be commissioned by December 2019,” revealed the official.
The major promoter of the project is a local investor, Ainos Nyadya who has partnered investors from the United States of America.
Zimbabwe is attracting a huge interest in solar investments from across the world and from local players with more than 100 000 solar power systems installed in homes across the country.
