MDC Vice President, Engineer Elias Mudzuri has urged his party to respect the judgement which was given by the High Court last week, the Harare Post can report.
Last week, the High Court gave a judgement which nullified and delegitimized the presidency of Nelson Chamisa as the substantive leader of the MDC after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai.
On his Twitter timeline, Eng Mudzuri wrote that his party should be devoted to the rule of law and are obliged to comply with all court decisions. He wrote; “As a party devoted and espousal to the rule of law, we are ideologically obliged to comply with all court decisions. The optimal guidance system and best foundation structure for social democracy is the rule of law. Without rule of law, there is no democracy.”
Mudzuri’s submission comes on the heels of majority party supporters challenging the high court decision and threatening to act in contempt of court. The party leader in question, Nelson Chamisa, has declared to proceed with the party congress and ignore the extra-ordinary congress which the court ordered them to hold within a month.
The soft spoken Mudzuri whose appointment as VP has also been delegitimized by the same High Court judgement, said that personal motives had led the party to this situation.
“Differences in interpretation of our own constitution are drawn from and motivated by self advancement via shortcuts which lead to foreseeable shortcomings.”
Mudzuri reiterated the same sentiments advanced by a 55-year old MDC Sesame District (Gokwe) Organising Secretary, Elias Mashavira who said that the party had become a grouping of hypocrites.
He said that “we do ourselves a great dishonour and disservice when we publicly sound at war with the courts. We shouldn’t be at war with the laws of our country.”
Mudzuri bemoans the combative and unnecessary bombastic manners in which his party colleagues engage in against the ruling of the High Court.
