President Emmerson Mnangagwa has consoled the opposition party, MDC for the death of two MDC activists following a tragic car crash which occurred yesterday evening in Kwekwe.
The President also wished Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java, a speedy recovery following her involvement in the same tragic accident.
Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java, an MDC Glenview South legislator, was also injured during the accident but is said to be in a stable condition.
“Very sorry to hear of the tragic car crash that claimed the lives of two committed MDC activists and injured Vimbai Tsvangirai. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased, and I join the Tsvangirai family and the nation as a whole in praying for Vimbai’s speedy recovery,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa is on record for being there for the opposition parties in good and bad times, despite the political differences.
In January last year, President Mnangagwa visited the late MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai to check on his health since he was diagnosed with cancer of the colon.
The late MDC leader hailed President Mnangagwa’s visit saying that it signalled the new politics which sees the opposition as one which does not constitute in any way an enemy of the state.
“The visit signalled what must be the bane of the new politics of our time that an opposition party, especially one represented in our national Parliament, does not in any way constitute an enemy of the State. The opposition is just as patriotic and aspires and wishes for the best for our people,” said Tsvangirai.
Responding to President Mnangagwa’s message, one netizen called Sharon Matika said that this demonstrated that we are one people despite our political differences.
“Thank you Sir for showing compassion and reminding Zimbabwe that we remain one people despite our political differences,” she tweeted.
Another netizen, Kuru posted that this shows high level of political tolerance. “The highest level of political tolerance. Thank you Mr President,” he posted.
