Government has contracted Bitumen World to rehabilitate most of the roads in Chimanimani which were destroyed by Cyclone Idai, Harare Post can report.
Speaking to this publication, National House of Assembly member for Chimanimani East Constituency, Joshua Sacco said he was grateful to Government for coming in to rehabilitate ravaged roads in Chimanimani.
“After most roads were ravaged, Government contracted a reputable company to rehabilitate roads starting with Jopa- Kopa – Kurwaisimba road,” Sacco said over the telephone.
He said the machinery was already stationed at Kopa growth point.
Most roads in Chimanimani were temporarily repaired and now the Government has started to do permanent mending of the roads.
“Wengezi-Mutambara-Chimanimani is now being repaired with Mhandarume Bridge being repaired. The Skyline Bridge near Muusha is also being repaired,” said Sacco.
Sacco said by Heroes holidays, most bridges would be almost complete in his constituency.
“As you are aware, Chimanimani Constituency was the most hit by Cyclone Idai, Government’s attention is focused on rehabilitating the roads,” said Sacco.
Brighton Dzakandwa Muchuwa, a resident in Ngangu Township, where most service roads in the location was destroyed said Government intervention was timely.
“We are happy that the Government has contracted a reputable company which works with well guided timelines,” said Muchuwa.
Muchuwa said the company had so far employed several youths in the Constituency.
Bitumen World is a leading and reputable contracting company based in Zimbabwe.
Ever since President Emmerson Mnangagwa took the reins, his priority has been on rehabilitating the decaying infrastructure, chief among them are roads.
The Government made a comprehensive approach to rehabilitate roads in the country making roads convenient for commuting motorists and ensuring an enjoyable journey to road users.
This is in line with the Vision 2030 of making the country attains a middle class income.
