President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday celebrated Independence Day with school learners from across the ten provinces.
Speaking to the children, President Mnangagwa said the event was important in sharing thoughts on devolution and express how leaders serve them.
"It is with great pleasure and joy that I address you at this occasion celebrating 39 years of independence under the theme: Zimbabwe at 39 :Embracing Devolution for Vision 2030.This event is an important platform for you to share your thoughts on devolution and express your opinion on how leaders can serve you better," said the President.
President Mnangagwa said that vision 2030 could be achieved through incorporating the views of children into perspective.
"We realise that you, our children have creative, innovative ideas and views on how you can be involved in the development agenda of our country. Indeed, our nation will only achieve the targets for vision 2030 if we take your views and needs into perspective," he said.
President Mnangagwa stated that the reforms in the new curriculum are a testimony of Government's commitment towards maintaining Zimbabwe's record for its sound education and literacy levels.
He said, "The accelerated expansion of schools nationwide together with the reform of our curriculum is a testimony of Government's commitment in this regard. We will ensure that education is brought to your door steps and no one is left behind."
President Mnangagwa highlighted that the competence-based Curriculum shall be vigorously implemented.
President Mnangagwa stated that the learners who were affected by Cyclone Idai will not be neglected, adding that the Government has put extensive plans to rebuild the schools destroyed by the catastrophe.
He said that the welfare, safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children shall be taken care of by relevant Government departments.
President Mnangagwa urged school authorities to allocate some time during the first Friday of the month to clean their surroundings including at home.
He urged learners to be respectful to their elders and shun drugs and alcohol.
