As the second Republic make inroads to democracy, Zimbabweans are in anticipation of Independence Day which is going to be held this Thursday.
Citizens have indicated that they are looking forward to this day because it is a day to celebrate the freedom which came with the gallant sons and daughters of the soil.
A vendor who is known as Mrs Macheke, speaking to Harare Post today said that Independence Day was a day to celebrate the freedom and Independence that came through gallant sons and daughters of the soil.
“Independence day means a lot to me. Every year I always join hands with all Zimbabweans in celebrating this day. This is a good time for us Zimbabweans to come together to celebrate the freedom and Independence that came through the sacrifice of our gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe,” she said.
On its Twitter handle, Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services encouraged everyone to cherish this day.
“Preparations for this year`s Independence celebrations are at an advanced stage countrywide. Our Independence is our heritage, let us all cherish it #Zim39,” they posted.
Speaking during the weekend at State House, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that everyone was invited to Independence Day celebrations. He also said that opposition parties were also welcomed to the event as they need to be treated with dignity and respect.
“These are Zimbabweans, they are part of the machinery of Government, they are in Parliament, they are part of the institutions of the country, they are most welcome and we will give them the dignity and the respect they deserve,” he said.
President Mnangagwa has called every Zimbabwean to participate on this day since it is a national event and accommodates everyone.
